Using customer discounts to encourage carbon saving

The Challenge

Transport represents a difficult decarbonisation challenge for Ireland as it has a low-density population and a heavy reliance on private means of transportation. Therefore, the Climathon's aim was to find technology-based solutions to encourage the use of sustainable commuting options.

The winning project, called TIDE, is a transport app that awards citizens discounts in local stores based on the carbon savings they make. This reward-based project provides its users with clear incentives that encourage them to make more sustainable decisions when it comes to their commute.

Where Are They Now

The team received €1000 from Blackstone LaunchPad at UCC to further develop their idea, which they are taking to the United States to participate in a global entrepreneurship programme.
