Improving Penang's Environment

Think City is organizing Penang’s first Climathon as part of the Penang Climate Action Week 2019.

Challenge description

This 24-hours climate themed hackathon is focusing on these three topics below:

  1. Waste management for restaurants and street vendors
  2. Early warning system for floods
  3. Plastic pollution in rivers

Challenge vision

The Goals:

  1. Encourage recycling and waste management in restaurants or street vendors. Strong focus on cooking grease waste, as there are serious drainage problems caused by both street vendors and restaurants throwing it to the streets drains.
  2. Implementation of early warning systems in flood prone areas in Penang to notify residents. Sensors/ IoT devices should be able to transmit data to cloud about water levels in drains or rivers and raise alert if it rises above certain limits.
  3. Innovative, creative and realistic solutions to clean and remove plastic pollution from rivers in Penang. Mechanical or robotic solutions that simplify cleaning and removal of plastics from rivers are encouraged.

Together we can make Penang and the world a better place to live
