Challenge description

Scientific studies in Latvia have shown that extreme air temperatures are also changing with the increase in average air temperatures: the number of days with high air temperatures are increasing and the number of days with low temperatures is decreasing (Meteo.lv). The Latvian Environment, Geology and Meteorology Centre's Climate Change Analysis Tool points out that rainfall will increase significantly in the future in the area of Gauja National Park, the duration of heat waves, but in the meantime the average temperature will not grow so rapidly with the rest of Latvia. In this topic, we would like to look closer to climate change in Cesis and pilot area, as well as the impact of climate change on the environment - ecosystems and the building environment, given that Cesis is not only a cultural and historical city but also a city on the banks of river Gauja.

Challenge vision

What tools could help to recognize, assess, respond to climate risks in both the short and long term? What are the adaptability of the city and the requirements that the municipality should impose on the development of economic activity?

As part of the topic, we are calling for tools to help the municipality and/or the society, including individuals in adaptation and mitigation of climate impacts for local entrepreneurs, tourists.

It is desirable to visualize the tools and expected results with 3D/XR/VR technologies.
