Challenge description
This year's challenge will give you an opportunity to work in a multidisciplinary team of young, motivated changemakers on creating solutions that our city can benefit from. You'll be able to stretch your creativity, make an innovative contribution and apply your knowledge to make a difference.
During the hackathon's 12 hours, you'll analyze and document the potential of green technology applications in publicly owned, multi-residential and commercial buildings. Based on a preliminary assessment of the microclimatic conditions of the facilities and location, the mapping should show areas and buildings where the green roof and green facade technology can be applied. The analysis should also include a proposal for the use of plants of the lowest allergenic potential as well as plants that are most appropriate for the climate of the City of Zagreb. These types of plants will be most effective in achieving optimal effects.
Your team will get a chance to develop a new and scalable ICT solution to:
a) help understand and predict with high probability where and how the best investments for green infrastructure can be achieved,
b) improve indoor air quality and smart monitoring in the building sector with real time data collection that would inform of energy savings, water usage and biodiversity delivered.
We're proud to introduce INA as our Climathon Partner and Supporter. INA is a European company with a leading role in the Croatian oil business and committed to doing business in accordance with sustainable development, and is excited to jump on board and include two of its business locations in Zagreb for our teams to work on: a business center office building and a gas station in the city center. The teams that choose to create a solution applying green technologies to these buildings will have an opportunity to further develop their projects in collaboration with INA.
Challenge vision
The application of green technologies has proven to have positive effects on increasing the energy efficiency of buildings, reducing water consumption, CO2 storage and reducing urban warming.
The solutions that arise from the Climathon will be extremely useful to the City of Zagreb as well as our Climathon Partner INA as the option of developing a pilot project in collaboration with the City of Zagreb and also INA is open for the most promising solutions.
