Challenge description

 The great natural values, which are found in the green areas of the city of Cesis, are an untapped opportunity. The city of Cesis is a popular destination for tourism and cultural events. The long-term development strategy of the city is also aiming at developing a new “resort”. The first steps are already in place with the construction of the Cosmos Science Centre, which is estimated to attract 100,000 visitors annually.

As part of the topic, we call for  the creation of tools to help the municipality assess and develop a range of tourism services or develop business ideas for using ecosystem services and reducing tourism loads.

Challenge vision

How can ecosystem services help foster an environmentally friendly, unique and resort-based tourism? How to assess existing natural values and apply them to the development of tourism products so as not to create additional burdens on the natural values? How can a local government be a better mediator between nature protection and the pressure of tourism? It is desirable to visualize the tools and expected results with 3D/XR/VR technologies.
