Challenge description

This event will focus on the needs of 14 individual communities in the south eastern harbour region of Malta. With a World Heritage Site and other historical and cultural localities, this area is the most densely populated, urbanised and the most industrialised of the Maltese islands – including harbours, ports, airport, freeport, tourism, fishing agriculture, health etc.

This area has seen tremendous development in the past years and we are looking for ideas to improve the general quality of life in this area.

Challenge vision

Our vision is based upon making the region more attractive for people living, visiting and working in the area. We would like to see localities which are greener, safer and cleaner for young children. We would like to have carbon-neutral localities whereby green transport is available. We would like to have more communities that are self-sustaining and produce chemical-free food produced by local farmers and consumed by local businesses. We envision a region that has a higher appreciation of its culture and historical heritage.

Sustainable and Smart Localities: TRANSFORMING COMMUNITIES

Addressing transformation towards carbon neutrality in the southeastern regions in Malta.
