Motivating a revolution in transport and travel for a low-carbon future in Limerick
Limerick
How can we use open data tools and citizen engagement to manage the transition between our current travel system and a low-carbon future?
Read moreThe transition from gridlock to a positive energy future in transport in Limerick has to happen fast. This challenge asks you for ideas to get the city moving in the right direction, today.
Limerick is currently part of a revolutionary international project called +CityxChange, which is testing new kinds of technologies around energy use in housing and transport. The centre of Limerick city is currently a testbed for exciting new energy systems and green technologies, which gives us a window on to the future – a special insight into the kinds of changes we will need to make our city low-carbon and energy positive.
This challenge will give you an opportunity to see some of this technology in action, and give you access to information already gathered on current and future transport in the city. Then we will ask you to come up with solutions for these challenges: how do we inspire people to make their journeys more energy efficient? How do we help people to move around in a low-carbon city? What are the opportunities for Limerick and its people in transitioning to these new models of city travel and transport? Working with your fellow citizens, can you come up with a project, app, or policy that will make a real difference in Limerick’s transition to the positive energy future?
This is a unique opportunity to take part in a global Climathon event and common challenge relating to climate change, human behaviour and technology. We will be working alongside over a hundred other cities worldwide to develop solutions for the urgent challenges we face.
This challenge is for citizens of Limerick interested in making the city more accessible, easier to travel to and move around within. In order to create change in Limerick quickly and effectively, we know we need many different kinds of stakeholders involved – citizens, businesses, local government, and social and cultural organisations. These groups will all be involved in our Climathon, offering a brilliant opportunity to develop something special for our city, with real potential. We need innovative ideas and solutions, and they could take one of many forms: an app, product, service, platform, network or policy change. Solutions could focus on increasing engagement and empowerment for local citizens, or on physical or digital platforms to enable interaction and integration of different groups in the green energy transition in Limerick.
Come join us in Limerick as we take part in a global movement to find solutions for climate challenges in our cities!
