Can we make mobility in Novi Sad more eco friendly?
The overall number of people in Novi Sad is growing, so we need to change the way we work and live in order to reduce the impact of those growing numbers. First of - Mobility!
Challenge description
Being a University city and a tourist hot spot for several years now, Novi Sad should and must offer solutions that are effective, efficient, and "green" when it comes to mobility. Currently there are 3 different transport possibilities for people in Novi Sad: cars, bicycles and public transport (buses). As the numbers grow (people, buildings, ergo the number of vehicles and traffic participants in general) we as a community need to be more aware of the bigger impact that has on the environment of our city. We are also experiencing the rise in use of e-scooters which is still not regulated by law.
Also some troubling data comes from the ministry of traffic where we see that Novi Sad is the city with the most bicycle users and the most accidents involving bicycle users and bicycle steals in Serbia. This discourages people to own and ride bicycles.
NS Bike - an organization that rents bikes to pedestrians to use from station to station is not well connected to the more remote parts of the city, and generally those parts of the outer rim of the city are not that well connected with the rest of Novi Sad.
At this event we would like to answer these questions and more with possible ideas, concepts, business models, startups and other so our city can be more eco friendly, better connected, regulated and to inspire people to be the change.
Challenge vision
Because of these problems we ask you for your help to solve them in a sustainable way. Here are broad problems we have chosen for you to solve:
1) More bicycle activity, reduce steals, accidents, and increase the use of NS bike with a twist to connect it better with the parts of the city which are further way from the center. These are broad problems we have identified regarding bicycle users, can you see a sustainable solution?
2) How can we make our public transport more appealing to tourists and our own citizens? Is there a way to make it fun, more sustainable? More eco friendly? Let us know!
3) We can never have to much of car reduction. Can we make people carpool to work? Or make them use public transport and/or bicycles? What are your ideas?
4) E-scooters - Friends or foes? Helps us regulate this phenomenon in our city!
Like we said, these are broad problems we would like to solve regarding mobility in Novi Sad. We would like to encourage you to think outside of the box, but think sustainability and applicability.
We would also like for you to think scalability. Don't worry, our mentors will help you!
