Challenge description
Transportation is one of the main challenges for any city in the world. Curitiba is one of the cities with the largest number of vehicles per inhabitant in Brazil. Traffic jams are observed during rush hours and CO2eq emission from traffics represent 75% of the total emission of the city.
Banning the use of diesel cars in the city (the most polluting transport cars mode), electrifying the fleet of the city and focusing on a better urban planning in order to densifying the city. These are some proposed solutions that appear in various cities around the world but we already know that all these action will not be enough. That is why we must act now and that is why the city needs you!
The path goes by offering solutions in challenges such as:
How can we integrate easy mobility with sustainability?
How can public transport become more efficient and reduce the large use of private transport?
What are the possible approaches to reduce GHG emission from motorized individual transportation?
How can we empower local neighbourhood in order to reduce travels in the city?
What kind of financial aspect can help reducing the GHG coming from private transportation?
How can we implement a smart thinking when it comes to transport? What can be the incentive for the inhabitants of Curitiba?
Challenge vision
Solutions should focus on:
Alternative drive technologies and vehicle concepts
Meeting customer / passenger requirements: punctuality, comfort
Solution targets:
Development of technically feasible ideas / concepts for rail vehicles
Solution must make a significant contribution to climate protection
Resource-saving and socially acceptable use of material (global footprint) must be included in the concept
Concept must be suitable to be used as the basis for a prototype
Providing ideas for further development together with the challenge host
Thinking outside the box is expressly welcomed
Non-targets:
Solutions that cause additional fossil energy consumption or environmentally sensitive resource extraction (e.g. rare earth elements)
Solutions that are protected by copyright
Preparation of economic and technical calculations
Creation of an app
