Old and Young Unite!

Old and Young Unite!

When old age meets teenage. How might older and younger generations actively support each other in reducing resource consumption?

Challenge description

Hundreds of thousands of pupils and students have been taking to the streets to protest for the climate and their future for months now. A growing number of you are trying to behave in more climate-friendly ways in everyday life. You buy second-hand clothing instead of
discount fashion, give up meat or cut back plastic as much as possible.

Your approach: Impact the climate through a more eco-conscious and minimal lifestyle!

Many old people follow these protests on television, if at all. But similar to the young, consumerism is often alien to them and as a post-war
generation they grew up with limited resources. They preserve vegetables, eat mostly at home and have a natural aversion to "to-go cups".

We believe these synergies should be harnessed!

Challenge vision

Our vision is to use the potential of a cooperation between young and old to face the challenges of climate change together.

  • How can old and young support each other?
  • How can we profit from each other's knowledge and experiences?
  • What concepts, approaches and business models can we think of on a neighbourhood or city-level to foster intergenerational exchange and learning to save precious resources?

Together we can make Leipzig and the world a better place to live

Solve the climate challenge put forward by the City of Leipzig about the future of mobility in the city.  More than 5000 people from 113 cities, in 46 countries and 6 continents tackled 196 climate challenges in the 2018 Climathon. This year, Leipzig will join the Climathon for the first time!
