Trees are an important element of the city landscape. They contribute to green spaces in the city, they act as carbon sinks and reduce the heat island effect. Many of these trees are located on private property, where the owners have the right to cut them down. The trend among private owners in the last few years has been towards felling the trees in favour of parking spaces. Regardless of its policy towards increasing green spaces in Ljubljana, the municipality has no means to prevent such felling.
Under this challenge we are looking for solutions on how to convince the private owners in Ljubljana to recognize the importance of the trees on their property for their private benefit and the benefit of the whole city in order to avoid tree felling.
