We challenge extreme climate events

How shall we react to weather and water extreme events?

Challenge description

As a rural area, Wolkersdorf and its surroundings have traditionally been dominated by agriculture. The last couple of decades have seen a significant rise in industrial and housing sites, combined with an expansion of the infrastructure as roads.

How do drought and intense rain affect the area? Let’s gather ideas and solutions both for the agricultural life and the private households, the municipality and the many areas affected by the extreme weather events.

Challenge vision

The nature-oriented sites in the area as the woods, the fields and the park are challenged by the growing population and thus the rise of housing construction and industrial sites. We are lucky to see many trees and plants frame our streets and sites. But still, there is some room for improvement. Which steps could we take to ensure sustainable water management, preventing drought and flooding? Even outside these extreme weather events, which little steps can we take to make our area resilient to climate change, to the increasing number of hot days, to warm winters and dry seasons?

Let's hack Wolkersdorf into an even greener future!

Be part of the Climathon Wolkersdorf on Oct. 25th! We start at 17:00. In 24 hours, you will be able to work with like-minded people in small groups to solve the challenges around mobility, energy consumption and water management.
