Let’s turn the city green!

How can we turn Bucharest into a greener better city?

Creating or reviving urban gardens could drastically improve the life of citizens in Bucharest. Concrete is gaining more and more spaces in Bucharest, therefore a call to transform the city into a greener place is required. Let’s call for ideas to reclaim spaces for community ‘urban gardens’.

Challenge description

Bucharest is 7th the most polluted city in Europe and 3rd the most polluted city in Eastern Europe. In Bucharest the green surface per capita is almost 10 square metres while in Vienna there is 12 times more green space per capita. While solutions from the public authorities delay to appear, private initiative could make a chance for the city.

Challenge vision

How can we make Bucharest a greener, better, more optimistic city for its inhabitants? What solutions could we find to extend the green space per inhabitant? Could we involve people to be more conscious about the importance of ‘green’ in their lives?

Solutions we are looking for could focus on:

  • Define/redefine/adapt the idea of green spaces in Bucharest
  • Ideas to reclaim the spaces for community urban gardens
  • Projects that would transform concrete/unused spaces into greenery oasis

Together we can make Bucharest and the world a better place to live

This October, Bucharest plays a key role in acting against climate change by joining the international hackathon Climathon, organized by Impact Hub Bucharest. Climathon Bucharest includes a 24 hour hackathon and support for the winning teams.
