Gaiba, a small village of the Po Valley, is facing more extreme events such as floods, droughts, tornados and storms in the last years. We need adaptation solutions bringing greenery into the urban and rural environment to reduce the impact of extreme atmospheric events.Challenge description
The municipality of Gaiba is led by new administration that aim to develope projects for a zero-carbon society in our territory. Climathon offers the opportunity to involve citizens into a sustainable society and boosting their awareness on climate change. The Gaiba Climathon 2019 will focus on how to use plant solutions to reduce the impact of extreme atmospheric events. Can the greenery help reducing flood or drought effects?
Several guests coming from local municipality, research, companies will focus the attention about the water and atmospheri risks and vulnerable areas and use of plants on urban projects. The staff will help Climathon partecipants into the challenge of planning greenery solutions in Gaiba to reduce the impact of extreme events.
Challenge vision
The vision is to involve citizens into municipality of Gaiba decisions as sustainable ways. We should increase the use of greenery, not only as ornamental object for the garden or rural enviroment, but mostly because of climate change effects as a strategy to reduce the impact of extreme atmospheric events occuring in Gaiba.
