Challenge description
At Climate conference (COP 21) in Paris, on 12 December 2015, parties to the UNFCCC adopted the universal, legally binding global climate agreement to address climate change and its negative impacts.
The agreement sets out a global action plan to put the world on track to avoid dangerous climate change to limit global warming to less than 2°C, to well below 2°C and striving for 1.5°C.
The phenomenon of releasing toxic mixture of greenhouse gases in to the atmosphere daily threatens the existence of human lives globally. We can avoid the worst impacts of climate change if we limit warming to under 2ºC, for this, we need a cleaner economy sooner.
Most countries are not on track to achieve these targets. There is a need for countries around the world to focus on designing and implementing policies to meet emissions reductions, strong policy commitments, adopting measures to support clean technology investments, adapting carbon-pricing schemes, reshaping the tax systems etc.
Challenge vision
At the pace of current CO2 emissions, if no action is taken, it would have harmful consequences to humanity and the biosphere in several ways.
There is a need of the all the countries around the world to take actions against this on a regular basis to be as accurate as possible with the efforts needed.
Solutions should focus on:
- Source of greenhouse gas
- Price the carbon
- Efficient usage of carbon capture storage projects
- Reshape the tax system and fiscal policies
- Implementation of fiscal policies to discourage carbon emissions from coal and other polluting fossil fuels
- Shift to clean energy sources
- Adopt measures to support clean technology investment
- Increasing investment in green energy, or simply returning the money to people as a dividend
Introduction of pricing schemes for other greenhouse gases, for example, from forestry, agriculture, extractive industries, cement production, and international transportation
