CO2 CAPTURE IN VALENCIAPORT

Measures to be implemented in port premises for the capture of CO2 and their application in the port

How could we use carbon capture technologies in port facilities? The answer will take into account three aspects: Identification of suitable CO2 sources, the implied logistics within the port (collection, storage and distribution) and the valorisation of the captured CO2.

Challenge description

The current activity in the port of Valencia entails an environmental impact in terms of GHG emissions and air pollution. One of the main objectives is to operate towards zero net emissions in 2030. For this reason, CO2 capture could represent one of the solutions to cope with this goal.

Challenge vision

Solutions will include the following aspects:

  • Where can we capture CO2 in the port?
  • How to manage the logistics side (collection, storage and distribution) within the port?
  • How to use it?

A complete review of current available solutions to be implemented in the port is valuable. These technologies will need to be adaptable and feasible to the complex reality of the port
