Extreme flood levels and extreme droughts are being recorded around Batticaloa every year. Since Batticaloa is a place that is more dependant on natural resources for food production, to be precise the annual rain fall plays a major role in agriculture. If there is an extreme drought, the paddy fields and other crops wither out of water and when it comes to extreme flooding, agriculture fields as well as properties of civilians are destroyed and washed away.

Therefore, finding sustainable solutions to over come these extreme climatic conditions has become vital in Batticaloa.
