Air pollution

Transport and air quality in Dublin

Help solve Dublin's transport and air quality challenge

Globally, more than 80% of people living in urban areas are exposed to poor air quality. Reducing air pollution should be a priority to all cities, not just for decreasing the negative effects of climate change, but for citizens’ health as well.

Challenge description

Traffic congestions is a big issue in Dublin. The reasons for this are partly due to a legacy of the city's old road netowrk, but other factors such as a growth in population and preferential use of private transport also contribute to this. Dublin's  transportation infrastructure has difficulties to keep up with growing requirements such that these challenges lead to more traffic jams and increased emmisions in the city centre.

It is necessary to gather creative ideas on how it is possible to optimise smart mobility in and around Dublin, to critically examine the patterns of mobility and ask ourselves about viable alternatives.

Challenge vision

Creating a city which gives us opportunities for a range of low-emission mobility options. Creating an infrastructure which allows for different work or lifestyle practices which in turn lead to improved air quality.

Together we can make Dublin and the world a better place to live

Solve Dublin's climate challenges to foster a more sustainable future.
